(For your inspiration, the IWGN “Spotlight” feature highlights other entrepreneurs and achievers who are also living with chronic illness and making their mark on the world! Meet these Inspiristas on our blog or in our newsletter.)
In recognition of Parkinson’s Disease [PD] Awareness Month, I am excited to introduce you to Inspirista and fellow “Parkie,” Renee Le Verrier, RYT! Renee is a certified yoga instructor and owner of LIM Yoga—Yoga for Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders. Renee has been an inspiration to me since the early days of my disease. I met her as the instructor of a yoga class I was referred to by my doctor. About a year prior to the referral I had abandoned learning yoga because the PD made it too difficult for me to move and hold the poses. I didn’t think yoga was a possibility for me. What I didn’t realize at the time of the referral was that the class would be taught by someone with PD. Meeting Renee was especially significant for me, as she was the first person with PD I’d ever met who was not only still active and working, but also an independent business woman!
In addition to Parkinson’s Disease, Renee is a stroke survivor. She is not only an entrepreneur, but also a patient advocate and author (check our Book-tique to find two of her books—Yoga for Movement Disorders and A Treasure Hunt for Mama and Me). She says “Through teaching, writing and presenting about yoga, I hope to share this path to strength and grace.” Read more about Renee on her website www.limyoga.com.by
